Frequently asked questions
What is Auto Screen Shooter (A·S·S)?
Auto Screen Shooter is a capture product family from Amiplay Co., Ltd.: a Google Chrome extension for PNG/PDF tab and full-page work, plus Windows and macOS desktop apps for JPG, PDF, and MP4-style workflows. Marketing, downloads, and pricing live on autoscreenshooter.com.
Is the Chrome extension free to install?
Yes. You can install the extension from the Chrome Web Store listing and use core capture features. A small watermark may appear on free-tier exports; a purchased license removes the watermark on new captures and unlocks premium controls such as interval auto-capture where applicable.
What formats does the Chrome extension export?
The extension focuses on PNG (raster) and PDF (embedded captures). Very tall pages may split across multiple PDF pages for reliability. Desktop builds (separate download) add additional formats described on the downloads and tech-spec pages.
What is the difference between “visible tab” and “full page” capture?
Visible tab saves what you see on screen in that tab without scrolling the whole site. Full page (stitched) scrolls and combines the page vertically into one tall PNG when you enable the full-page option in the appropriate capture mode—useful for long articles and dashboards.
What does “Display: full screen / tab” mean?
That mode uses Chrome’s desktop capture picker so you can choose a screen, window, or tab surface to share, depending on what Chrome offers on your system. You can combine it with optional full-page stitching for the current website tab when configured in the extension popup.
Where are my files saved?
By default, captures save under your Downloads folder in a subfolder named auto-screen-shooter. You can optionally enable a “Save As” style prompt (when licensed) to pick location and filename more explicitly.
What filename tokens can I use?
The extension supports template tokens such as {yyyy}, {MM}, {dd}, {HH}, {mm}, {ss}, {host}, and {title}. Quick presets in the popup help you start from common patterns.
How do site rules (block / allow-only) work?
You can define URL patterns with * wildcards. Block skips matching URLs. Allow-only means that if at least one allow rule exists, only matching URLs can be captured—helpful for locked-down workflows.
What is “Recent captures” / history?
The popup keeps a local list of recent saves (metadata, not duplicate copies of every image). You can export that list as JSON for backup or clear it without deleting files on disk. Retention is configurable within the limits shown in the popup.
Can I use a keyboard shortcut?
Yes. Open Chrome’s extension shortcut settings (chrome://extensions/shortcuts) and assign a shortcut for the capture command. The default suggestion in the manifest is Ctrl+Shift+Y where available.
Why does the popup say not to open popup.html as a normal tab?
Chrome extension messaging for the popup only works when the UI is opened from the toolbar icon. Opening the HTML file directly in a tab breaks that channel—always use the pinned extension icon.
Do I need a license?
Not to try the product. A license purchased on autoscreenshooter.com removes the free-tier watermark on new captures and unlocks premium features such as interval auto-capture and related controls in the Chrome build, per the current product behavior.
How do I activate my license in the Chrome extension?
Open the extension popup, find the License section, paste your key, and use Activate. Activation contacts the licensing service over the network. If activation fails, verify the key, network, and that you are using the official extension from the Chrome Web Store.
What does the free-tier watermark look like?
Free-tier exports may include a small branding line referencing AutoScreenShooter.com. On multi-page PDFs, branding is intended to appear only on the last page. Licensed sessions skip that branding on newly generated captures.
What is the minimum interval for automatic captures?
Scheduled captures use Chrome’s alarm APIs; in practice the minimum interval is about one minute. This is a platform-oriented constraint, not an arbitrary product cap.
Why is part of my full-page capture blank or cut off?
Some sites lazy-load content until you scroll, use heavy GPU layers, or embed cross-origin frames. Try scrolling the page once slowly, switch between visible-tab vs stitched modes, or adjust header/sidebar stitching options. DRM-protected or highly restricted pages may not capture fully by design.
Why did my PDF split into multiple pages?
Very tall captures are split across multiple PDF pages so viewers and PDF engines do not clip the bottom of an oversized single page. This is intentional for reliability.
Does the extension work on every website?
No extension can guarantee every site. Public pages that behave like normal documents usually work well. Pages with unusual security, canvas blocking, or embedded protected content may produce partial results.
How do I install the Windows or macOS desktop app?
Visit the Downloads page for the current .msi and .dmg. On macOS, Gatekeeper may show a security prompt the first time you open an app from the web—use Open from the shortcut menu or System Settings → Privacy & Security if needed. For code signing, Apple notarization, or Microsoft SmartScreen reputation, see the same site’s notes—final submission steps use your own developer accounts.
Where do I buy a license?
Pricing and Stripe checkout links are on the home page under Buy a license. Purchases are handled through the checkout provider shown there.
Where is the privacy policy?
See Privacy for how autoscreenshooter.com treats information. The extension may contact api.amiplay.net for licensing and autoscreenshooter.com for product references, as described in store listings and docs.
Which languages does the Chrome extension UI support?
The extension ships many locale files (for example English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, simplified and traditional Chinese, and others). Choose your language in the popup’s Language section.
How do I update the extension?
Chrome Web Store updates roll out automatically when Google delivers a new version to your browser. You can also open chrome://extensions and use “Update” after enabling Developer Mode, if you need to force a check.
How do I uninstall or reset the extension?
Remove the extension from chrome://extensions. That removes the extension’s packaged files; local storage used by the extension may be cleared as part of removal depending on Chrome behavior. Export history JSON first if you need a record.
Can I use the extension on multiple Chrome profiles?
Yes, but each Chrome profile is separate. Install and configure (and license, if desired) per profile.
My company blocks desktop capture or downloads—what can I do?
Managed browsers may restrict permissions, downloads folders, or screen capture. Contact your IT administrator with the extension’s permission list from the Chrome Web Store. You may still be able to use visible-tab PNG capture if policies allow.
Where can I read full technical behavior (outputs, rules, limits)?
See the Tech specs page for a structured summary of desktop vs Chrome behavior, licensing notes, and feature lists.
How do desktop apps differ from the Chrome extension?
Desktop installers target full-page workflows with JPG, PDF, and MP4 on Windows/macOS. The Chrome extension focuses on in-browser PNG and PDF. Pick the build that matches where you capture (browser vs OS-level).
